Questioning If Photography Is Where God Wants Me

I had been posing the question in my mind: Is photography what God wants me doing?

This past May I moved back to my home state of Florida. I had lived in Texas for the past 7 1/2 years………wow………writing that I can’t believe I was there that long.

I moved back to Florida in my hometown to finish my PTA degree and be near my mom.

In May of 2024 I had posted my first maternity model call on social media. This sweet young girl replied to my post letting me know her and her husband were pregnant with their first baby and I instantly felt this was perfect. First time soon to be parents for them and my first ever model call session.

The Dress That Started It All

She found this beautiful dress off Poshmark and it was perfect! It complemented her frame so well and photographed nicely.

I didn’t know whom she bought the dress from, let alone what state the seller was in.

Fast forward to this past June…..now remember….I had just moved back home in May.

An Unexpected Connection

I was researching locations on the web. I had typed in a specific location to see if there were any posts or images of what it looked like….low and behold I find photos of a woman in the SAME DRESS and it’s for HER maternity session. This woman was the SELLER of the dress on Poshmark…..and get this….she doesn’t live far from me!!!!

LIKE…..WHAT!? IS THIS REAL!?!

I had to reach out to her telling her about the story and we hit it off and come to find out she is a photographer as well!!!

She has been so welcoming towards me with advice, helpful resources and encouragement. We’re even going to meet up to do a fun session of her and her family.😃

God’s Answer Was Already in Motion

Photography has always been something I love….but as mentioned earlier in this story I had been wondering “is photography the service where God wants me.…”

Not just “do I enjoy it” or “am I good at it” but does God want me doing this…or am I pursuing it because I want it?

This story may not sound like much to you, but the more I reflect on it, the more I realize this dress had a job to do beyond the session in 2024.

Meeting another photographer through a simple dress felt like confirmation that photography is where God wants me right now.

While I don’t believe every answer comes this clearly, this experience felt like a reminder that I can trust where God wants me to be.
